Recommendations of the Centre for Democracy and Law Miko Tripalo for increasing the transparency and accountability of the Croatian judiciary

To eliminate certain shortcomings of the Croatian judiciary, Centre Miko Tripalo is submitting for public consideration several recommendations to increase the transparency of the judicial system, strengthen the mechanisms for the accountability of judges, and democratizing the elections of the State Judicial Council. The recommendations propose reforms that can be achieved firstly through decisions of the judicial institutions themselves and only then by changing the laws. The proposed changes are designed not to jeopardize the independence of the judiciary but to strengthen its transparency and accountability mechanisms.
