Since 2010 President of Republic of Croatia; tenured professor of criminal procedural law at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. He has published numerous scientific papers and articles relating to criminal procedural law, international criminal judicial system, misdemeanor law and infringement of copyright. Participated in drafting legislation and wrote legal commentary. Studies and plays music (has a degree in composing from the Zagreb Music Academy), composed about 50 songs for the symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles and soloists performed by renowned Croatian and foreign artists. He is the recipient of several Croatian and international arts awards, among others, the Grand Prix of the European Broadcasting Union and two Croatian music awards Porin. For many years he was the Director of the Zagreb Music Biennale and the Secretary-General of the Croatian Composers Society.
